X Factor Week 3 – Another Wagner?

by RealityTVBlog on September 5, 2011

We have reached the third week of live shows, and after the regular spiel we are introduced to 42 year old David Wilder, a rather tired looking ‘Keith Richards’ even though Keith is 25 years older. David says he is 42 going on 18, but by the looks of him it is more like 80. Singing Life on Mars by David Bowie, David starts mincing around the stage before walking down to the judging panel making them look rather anxious, and then he bolts off into the audience, running around like a headless chicken. Unfortunately, his sprinting was the most exciting thing about the performance as the singing is diabolical. With this being said the judging panel are impressed by him and offer up probably the most undeserved four yeses of the series. Looks like we may have another Wagner, much to the delight of millions of viewers.

Next we turn to focus on the ‘new talent,’ all the 16 year olds that had previously been too young to enter. After a bunch of very good performers, we move to Luke Lucas, someone who has a bit of a crush on Tulisa.  Singing whose loving you by Michael Jackson, Luke has a quiet confidence about him, which is actually quite refreshing. Luke starts to belt out the tune without issue. He also has a very good stage presence, but is not overly confident. Gary Barlow sums the whole performance up by saying, “you don’t learn to sing like that you are born to sing like that.” It seems like we may have a potential finalist in Luke.

Back in 2010, you may remember Michael Lewis, the Michael Jackson impersonator who has come back to drop the impersonation. Singing Look at Me by Geri Halliwell, he flaunts about the stage like he has something in his underwear. His singing is terrible, but probably slightly better than last year, which does not say a lot for that performance. The judges are not impressed, and he receives four no’s. He leaves, but not before throwing a tantrum and laying down on the stage refusing to move, calling the audience two faced. Following on from this, we see an array of arrogant performers who are all terrible. We are introduced to Angel a dance/singing trio that do not like Tulisa. She says that they only dance to cover up their singing. One of the trio pipes up and says, “That is a bit rich coming from you.” Kelly then steps in and lays into her saying you could have just ruined your friend’s chances, even though she clearly did not. The judges quickly banish them from the stage.

Auditions have moved to Glasgow for the last quarter. Jade Richards, 21, from Fife has brought her Nan and her Mum along with other members of her family. Walking out onto the stage, she describes Fife as a “bit of a dive” and says that this show could get her out of somewhere she does not want to be. Singing someone like you by Adele the performance is spot on and brings a lot of the audience and the judging panel to tears. In fact, Kelly Rowland is actually trying to fight back the tears. The whole crowd and for the first-time in the series, Tulisa and Kelly give her a standing ovation. After four of the biggest yeses we could have possibly ever seen in the auditions the show comes to an end.
