I missed you last week. Did you miss me? Last week my blogging fingers took a hiatus to busy town. And busy town doesn’t allow you to do anything but everything that takes up all your darned time and leaves you sleepless and wishing there were more hours in a day. I am not happy that I am coming back on the week that one of the best singers was let go. What in the %@!# is going on?!?! Pia? Say it ain’t so! I feel hoodwinked, bamboozled, beat down. Damn, damn, damn!
Last week I didn’t feel this way. I knew it was just a matter of time for Thia and Naima and last week marked the end of the sand in their hourglass. What did make me feel all good inside was Fantasia’s performance. Okay so I hated her dress. While looking at her dress, I kept wondering why I was saying to myself, “there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home” and I even tried to click my heels to end up in Kansas a few times but she has never been a style icon, let’s be honest. But her performance was awesome! Love that word! AWE-SOME! I loved it betta’ than my collard greens and cornbread. Oh that’s love.
But Pia? Really America? What was it that didn’t make you text her number, call or vote online? Okay so I didn’t see her winning the title but I just knew she would outlast Haley and Stefano! I mean. What’s really going on?
I like Stefano, I do, I flirt with him every week, but he is missing something. That umph. That mojo. When you see people perform like Constantine Maroulis (even if you hated his rendition of a near perfect song, you have to admit he at least performed it well), Fantasia (minus the shiny, red dress that someone should destroy) and Iggy Pop. Actually, not Iggy. He scared me and made me wonder what drug made him do that, that I need to warn all to avoid! Put your shirt on old man! Sheesh. Now back to what I was saying…when you see someone who has all the nuggets of a star, you realize that Stefano is missing a nugget or two. His connection with the audience doesn’t seem genuine. And his performance is predictable.
Haley on the other hand has improved week to week. She isn’t afraid to dance a little even if she has no rhythm, but she has improved so much so that she seems to be feeling herself a little bit too much. Do you see how she is almost posing every time the camera is on her? Like she is thinking “I look so cute. My hair. My clothes. Look at me.
Strike a pose there’s nothing to it, Vogue.” Sorry, I got a little carried away. I love a confident person but a humble confidence is simply more attractive. If she is getting big headed already, she is going to be a hot mess of overconfidence when she really makes it. Pump the breaks honey. Pump the breaks.
So why didn’t Pia get the votes this week?
She has the look. The sex appeal. The voice. A humble confidence I think is so attractive. You could tell she really wanted it. And she even had the votes before this week. What I saw was lacking was energy outside of her voice, the WOW factor, the “she makes me wanna groove” nugget. The popular artists of today are artists that move, groove, and own the stage. She had a Celine Dion thing about her. Celine doesn’t need to dance around to keep you watching but Celine has a presence that Pia just simply does not. Maybe that’s what got her nixed.
I admit I didn’t vote for Pia this week more than once so you can blame me. She hit the “zzzz I’m bored” button and when you hit that in me, I tune out and fall asleep with my eyes open. I’d say that’s not a good sign. But I sure as heck didn’t think she’d go so soon.
I’m excited and nervous for next week. If Stefano or Haley continues to be safe, I am going to lose a favorite of mine and the thought of it makes me want to blow up like the Hulk. Not really. I’m too sexy to be green but it does make me sad and blue. To make me feel better, I’m going to replay that Fantasia performance yet again, and again, and again and play until she is horse. What I won’t be replaying is this week’s episodes. Seeing Jacob and Pia stand together as the bottom two didn’t make me go to sleep happy and I’m usually a fall asleep with a smile on my face kind of gal. Don’t shoot me for thi but something tells me Pia won’t be one we’ll see afterwards or at least not for long. I am not sure she has staying power. I personally think she is going to fade away like many contestants of Idol past. And be just a good singing memory that we’ll soon forget. But I hope she proves me wrong.
Until next time…

Yes,I did miss you (your comments) the week before. Searched madly for you.
Hmmmmmm, I guess if someone doesn’t “all” of what it takes, might as well go. But…always hoping the great singers will stay around long to be really noticed & offered a contract after their idol stint. So I can continue to enjoy them. “Keep hope alive”.
See ya on the radio.
